Centerless Grinding
Laurel Wire Company has been offering exceptional centerless grinding services since 1983, with our focus as always on the quality of our work and providing the best customer service available in the industry. Centerless grinding is a method of removing material through the act of grinding, very similar to centered grinding but without a spindle being used. A large quantity of items can be processed in a very short period of time using centerless grinding. It is a very efficient and cost-effective method of achieving the grinding goal, a benefit that we are very happy to pass on to our loyal customers.
There are two types of centerless grinding:
Throughfeed grinding, in which the metal piece is entered into the centerless grinding machine blade. Plunge grinding, in which the piece is set between the wheels on a grinding blade and the centerless grinding wheel is set into the metal part being worked on.
Centerless grinding is able to achieve the standard grinding goals with the added benefit of allowing for the grinding of parts that have structures and angle which would not permit them to be OD ground, and allows for the removal of three, five and several other off number lobing on the shaft of the part in question, maintaining a size and shape that is normally beyond the capabilities of an OD grinder as a result of the lower overall pressures that are spaced out on the metal piece being worked on.
